Nepal Visa & Entry Requirements 2026

Nepal makes entry easy for climbers: most nationalities get a visa on arrival at Kathmandu airport, and the trekking permits take hours, not weeks. Get these five items right and you will walk out of the airport expedition-ready.

Visa on Arrival

Most nationalities can obtain a visa on arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport. Fill in the arrival card (online pre-registration speeds things up), queue at the visa counter, pay, and get stamped. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months with one blank page.

Visa Fees

Fees depend on length of stay: $30 for 15 days, $50 for 30 days, $125 for 90 days — payable in USD, EUR, GBP, or major currencies. For a standard 16–21 day expedition, the 30-day visa is the right choice. Extensions are available at the immigration office in Kathmandu if weather delays you.

TIMS Card

You need a TIMS card (Trekkers' Information Management System, ~$20) for trekking in the Everest region. Organised through a registered agency or, for independent climbers on our permit programme, arranged alongside your climbing permit. Carry it on the trail — checkpoints at Lukla, Monjo, and Namche will ask for it.

National Park Fees

Khumbu peaks sit inside Sagarmatha National Park: entry fee ~$30, plus the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality fee (~$20). Keep the receipts — you will show them at the Monjo checkpoint on the way in.

Cash, Photos, Checklist

Bring passport photos (2–4) and cash in USD or EUR — the airport ATMs are unreliable and card payments are rare on the trail.
